Global CO2 emissions have risen by almost 50 % since 1990, contributing to increasing global temperatures. This is having a negative impact on our lives, the ecosystem and the economy: oceans are warming, sea levels are rising due to melting ice, vital crop production is falling because of desertification… It represents the toughest challenge confronting our planet. We need to take action now.

Approved the Paris Agreement to limit global warming

Contributing to mitigating and adapting us to the consequences of global warming

ACCIONA considers the fight against climate change, and the effects it causes, to be a strategic priority. The company works to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions to contribute to society's progress and respond to the main challenges of sustainable development in the fields of infrastructure, water and energy, leading the transition toward a low-carbon economy.

Renewable energy

It is estimated that over 70% of the GreenHouse Gas emissions that contribute to Global Warming come from the energy sector, either from the production of electricity and heat, or from transport and other types of fuel burning. This is why it is fundamental that we build a sustainable energy system to tackle climate change and mitigate its effects.

Access to water

We depend on a secure and clean supply of water for agriculture and livestock, energy production, and essentially to live. The rapid increase in temperatures worldwide has affected the melting of the poles and glaciers, water vapor concentrations, rainfall patterns, river volumes, underground water, and indeed the whole water cycle. This is why it is indispensable that we adapt ourselves to this new situation and assure access to this vital resource.

Infrastructure and cities

Cities are more vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters due to their high population densities and locations, so it's crucial we make them more resilient in order to adapt, while avoiding human, environmental and economic losses. The fight against climate change depends in large measure on investment in infrastructure, sustainable industrial development, innovation and technological progress.
